PARTY ET CIE EVENTS - LOVE IS ABSTRACT

We love a good challenge, and obscure themes is definitely an area we are drawn to.  What could be more obscure than....abstract?  Isn't love abstract?  We decided to run with this interesting theme and throw a party!  Add in some fun DIYs, delicious baked goods and a beautiful tablescape and we'll call it a success!

We love print invitations - they feel all the more special, and often become a fun little keepsake of a special event.  So we decided to take this to the experts.   Our friend Jennifer of BooBeanDesign's Etsy shop is chock full of customizable invitations for all sorts of events and themes, but because our theme was so specific, we asked her to design an invite especially for us.  She ran with the idea and designed these beautiful printable custom invitations.  We were thrilled with the gorgeous results.

Because the theme is so unique, we decided it would be fun to experiment with some DIY decor.  A hanging center decor piece creates a special festive vibe in a space, which lets guests know, "The Party Is Here!"  Because flowers are synonymous with Valentine's Day, we decided to string some faux flowers onto yarn, and hung them from the ceiling, mixing them with streamers and yarn of mixed lengths.

Our very well received Palm Leaf Fan is a DIY we grabbed from The House that Lars Built.  Her blog post contains a template, as well as easy instructions.  To display our beautiful palm leaf fans, we added them to a floral arrangement, mixing them with fresh flowers, blush ostrich feathers, and dried blush bunny tails - all in a vase which yes, we painted ourselves, in an abstract pattern with black splatter paint.

The place cards get a special mention in this blog post because we have them up as a Free Downloadable!   These easy to assemble Abstract Heart place cards can also be used for bridal showers, baby showers, or heart themed parties!  The names were beautifully hand calligraphed by our super talented friend at DistINKtive Calligraphy.

Our general color scheme for this party is "50 shades of blush," so we decided to stick with ivories and blush neutrals.  We have a slight obsession with our Simply Eco Ivory Large and Small Plates, and layered them with the Goddess Blush Large Napkins with gold splatter (a nod again to our Abstract theme), and the Goddess Blush and Gold Cups.  The adorable heart straws are from our friend Amber over at Dixie and Twine, whose shop specializes in modern bash basics such as banners, custom straws and other colorful hand crafted home decor pieces.

We hit up Pinterest for some Abstract Love inspiration for our cake.  This was a fairly easy cake to pull together because it doesn't require perfection!

We also tried our hand at the New York Times Cooking Abstract Art Cookie recipe.  Again, this recipe doesn't require perfection and was easy to pull together.
